With
a heavy heart: Our beloved Sifu Ted Wong passed on November 24 2010. |
Jeet Kune Do is the martial art designed by the legendary Literally translated Jeet Kune Do means: "The way of the intercepting fist". |
Original Jeet Kune Do finds it's roots in: Ving Tsun Kung Fu, direct and effective Boxing, good punching techniques Fencing, speedy footwork. |
As Bruce stated, "It (JKD) is not adding, but hacking away the unessentials." Though Wong admits that the original teachings of Bruce Lee can be considered a fighting style, he emphasizes that being efficient in Original Jeet Kune Do comes with perfecting a few good JKD techniques that work best for the particular individual. That is the whole idea of Bruce Lee's teachings: to use and perfect what works best for you. |
Ted Wong is one of only two people to be certified by Bruce Lee to teach Jeet Kune Do. Dan Inosanto being the other. Though Inosanto was groomed by Bruce Lee to teach JKD at the Chinatown school, Wong was chosen by Bruce Lee to be his training partner at his home. The difference between the two instructors in what they teach today is very evident. |
With the popularity of Original Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do teachings in America, Ted Wong has been leading the Seminar Circuit in this unique art founded by Bruce Lee, all over the United States, Canada and now Europe. |
Seeing Ted Wong teach a JKD seminar, one can see why Bruce Lee chose Wong as his workout partner. Ted Wong and Bruce Lee were approximately the same height and weight with similar body builds and ranges of flexibility. They spoke the same mother tongue and Wong held a special loyalty to his instructor. |
Wong doesn't want the original teachings of Bruce Lee to be lost and forgotten. With the JKD Concepts Method being taught today in seminars and schools, many people have left confused as to what are Bruce Lee's original teachings and what is the Evolved Concepts Method. One thing it is not, is the addition of new fighting styles into JKD. Jeet Kune Do is simply to simplify. |
Through his seminars, Ted Wong hopes to promote these original teachings, allowing the public to experience first-hand, the teachings of the greatest martial artist the world has known, Bruce Lee. While Inosanto has continuously evolved his Jeet Kune Do teachings into a Concept Method where he promotes the Filippino Martial Arts along with Indonesian Pencak Silat, Muay Thai and French Savate, Wong has preserved the original teachings of Jeet Kune Do as taught to him by Bruce Lee. |
Wong practically lived in Bruce Lee's home, allowing Bruce Lee to experiment with many different techniques with him. Many of the new innovations that Bruce discovered for his art were made possible because of these interactions.Being Bruce Lee's training partner was no easy task in itself. Wong had to spar with Bruce Lee when Bruce was in top physical condition. |
Also, holding air shields, focus gloves and heavy bags for Bruce Lee all came with a price of many bumps and bruises. But all this hard training has allowed Ted Wong to become an extremely proficient instructor of Bruce Lee's Original Jeet Kune Do. His one on one interactions with Bruce Lee at his home have made him one of the most knowledgeable and sought after practioners of JKD. |
If you are interested in the original art of Bruce, look here for a certified instructor under Ted Wong or take a look at the Bruce Lee Foundation website. Of course you are welcome to join us, when you come by the Netherlands. In the spirit of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. James & George |
